1. Ocean City is only 20 minutes north - a very popular tourist attraction, Ocean City has many different ways to make a summer day enjoyable! Amusement parks, Miniature golf courses, water parks, The Boardwalk and it's famous Original Boardwalk fries (unlike any others in the world!)
2. There is a beautiful river in your BACKYARD! - Winding through western Worcester County, the Pocomoke is home to many species of waterfowl, fish and other marshland dwellers! Fishing and canoeing are some of the most popular activities on the river. The Pocomoke is called "the most scenic and deepest river in Maryland"
3. The area is rich in tradition and history - Settled in the 1600's on the banks of the Great Pocomoke River, this town was originally known as Steven's Ferry after the ferry that crossed the Pocomoke River transporting tobacco and other goods. In 1865, the Town was incorporated as New Town. A trading center, tavern, shipyard and shops grew up around the original ferry landing. In 1878 the Town was again incorporated this time as Pocomoke. It soon became a thriving center of population and the largest community in the area.
By the early 1900's ship building was the largest industry in Pocomoke with furs, whiskey and tobacco finding their way via the Pocomoke River (the deepest and most scenic river in Maryland) to ports in Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia.

4. There are quality private and public schools available for children and adults - There is one local high school, a few elementary and middle schools, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is 15 miles north, and Salisbury University is 27 miles north in Salisbury.

Salisbury, the hub of the Eastern Shore is only 27 minutes north. - Complete with a University, a Minor League Baseball team, many retail centers, top chain restaurants as well as some of the finest seafood in the whole world... 7. There are many retail and cultural sites throughout the region. - From the Teackle Mansion in Princess Anne, to downtown Pocomoke, antique shops and fine clothing shops, plays and other events at the University, The Tanger Outlets in Ocean City, there is PLENTY to do.
8. There are golf courses within 5 miles, and many others within a half hour. Executive and 18 Hole Championship courses are available. Some of the more favorite ones are: Lighthouse Sound, Green Hill Yacht and Country Club, Great Hope, Rum Pointe, River Run and The Bay Club, just to name a few!
9. The people here are quite welcoming and are full of southern charm - Nothing beats southern hospitality and that's just what you will find in Pocomoke. The residents of Pocomoke celebrate for many reasons, and they are quite good at it. Every year they host "The Cypress Festival" celebrated around the second week in June each year! Carnival rides, local wares and incredible seafood, the popular "Duck Derby" and other fun performances and nightly activities!

In the past several years, the Lower Shore has become a popular destination for travelers, vacationers, families, retirees and singles. The area overflows with attractions and amenities, yet still keeps a quiet rural charm and a home-town feel.
